Growing Learners with Knowledge, Skills, and Global Awareness

At the International School of the Turks and Caicos Islands (ISTCI), our Primary School follows the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). This framework offers a balanced approach that integrates academic progress, personal growth, and international perspectives. It helps students develop the confidence and adaptability they need to thrive in the next stages of learning.

IPC

What Is the IPC?

The International Primary Curriculum (IPC) is an internationally recognised framework that brings learning to life through connected themes across subjects. It is structured around three areas of learning: Knowledge, Skills, and Understanding. At ISTCI, students study Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Art, Health and Wellbeing, Geography, History, Technology, Music, and Physical Education within these themes.

The IPC Learning Process

At ISTCI, every IPC unit follows the Process to Facilitate Learning, which keeps the learner at the centre and makes each experience engaging, reflective, and purposeful. The process unfolds through five stages:

The IPC Learning Process

This cycle is supported by ongoing assessment, self-reflection, and action, ensuring that every child’s growth is nurtured.

IPC Learning Outcomes

The International Primary Curriculum (IPC) defines progress through three key areas of learning:

  • Knowledge: Building a solid foundation of subject facts and information.
  • Skills: Developing practical abilities that can be applied, practised, and improved over time.
  • Understanding: Deepening awareness of concepts by making connections across subjects and experiences.

Alongside these areas, the IPC includes International Learning Goals that encourage students to appreciate different perspectives, develop intercultural awareness, and take responsibility as global citizens.
At ISTCI, student progress is measured at ages 7, 9, and 11, ensuring every learner is supported and challenged as they move forward in their education.

How We Deliver the IPC at ISTCI

At ISTCI, the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) is taught by skilled and dedicated teachers who provide an engaging and enriching education. Children studying the IPC achieve success in higher education and are prepared to thrive in today’s globalised world.

Learning is enriched through the IPC’s unique “home, host, heritage, and adopted countries” approach, which connects children’s cultural roots to new global perspectives. Students also participate in field trips throughout the year, strengthening their knowledge, skills, and understanding in practical, everyday situations.
The IPC also helps children develop the mindset and skills to succeed in an interconnected world. They are encouraged to take an interest in their own and other cultures, view the world from multiple perspectives, and build international mindedness and global competence. By being internationally minded, students are inspired to develop a passion for both their local and global communities.
